DeShawn Stevenson was arrested two nights after the Dallas Mavericks claimed the 2011 NBA Championship. The crime? Alleged public intoxication. Police said they found Stevenson drunk and lost Tuesday night, and had no choice but to take him into custody. He was released a few hours later, paying just a small fine.
DeShawn Stevenson Reminds Us That He Is, In Fact, A Champion
Stevenson tells KDFW-TV in Dallas that he wasn’t that drunk, he wasn’t lost and -- oh yeah -- he’s a champion, dangit.
“Just for winning the championship and getting accused of something that you had nothing to do with, it hurts.”
When you are not a champion and you get accused of something that you had nothing to do with, that’s understandable. But when you’re a champion and that happens? Not cool, police.
The Mavericks' parade is on Thursday. If DeShawn learned anything from friend and former teammate Gilbert Arenas, he'll mock the arrest by popping invisible bottles from the team's float. I can see David Stern's blood boiling from here!
