Our friend Tim Allen from Canis Hoopus heard from Derrick Williams, widely rumored to be the No. 2 pick in next week’s 2011 NBA Draft, at the prospect’s workout with the Minnesota TImberwolves on Thursday. Williams attempted to squelch concerns he can fit with Minnesota’s extant talent.

↵↵[Williams] said that he’s been working out with [Michael] Beasley and Wes Johnson this summer and thinks all 3 could play together at same time.

That's nice. But how Williams fits with Beasley and Johnson should not be the issue. If it's at all about fit (a dangerous consideration), it should be completely about how Williams fits with Kevin Love, the only sure-bet starter on the roster. And that's actually a serious question, since many believe Williams is a power forward, not a small forward.

This isn't a knock on Williams at all, just a reminder that making a decision on the No. 2 pick based on considerations of Michael Beasley is the road to (even more) doom. Do not let Michael Beasley dictate your team-building. Never again.
