A month after making the statement, Pippen clarified his comments and asserted he was taken out of context. Michael Jordan, he said, is still the greatest player in NBA history and the whole controversy was overblown by the media.

"The comments that I made were basically giving LeBron some props as a player, not to dismantle any player like Michael," Pippen said after a youth camp session at the Bulls/Sox academy. "We all know that he's the greatest player that ever played the game.

Perhaps he misspoke or perhaps he was caught up in the moment after the Miami Heat's NBA championship series win that was treated like a championship. More likely? He was just trolling LeBron James, feeding his ego and waiting for King James to fail spectacularly in the NBA Finals.
