According to CNBC’s Darren Rovell, LeBron is just about as disliked as you think he is. He spoke with the people over at the Davie-Brown Index, who measure such things, and here’s what they’ve deciphered:
Everyone Hates LeBron, Now In Poll Form
May 24th, 2010: 71.5% of people found LeBron James appealing, 70% would purchase a product he endorsed.
July 11th, 2010: Following “The Decision,” James’ appeal dropped to around 60% and his endorsement number dropped to about 68%. Honestly, I thought it would have been more.
May 24th, 2011: Over the course of a year, James had started climbing again, up to 63% and his endorsement number was holding steady.
June 19th, 2011: After LeBron’s shaky NBA Finals performance and questionable post-loss comments, his numbers fell off a cliff. His appeal is all the way down to 57% and his trust number dipped all the way down to 48%.
Of course, the flip side to this discussion is that LeBron gear still sells like hotcakes (assuming hotcakes are still selling like hotcakes). Nike sold more than 500,000 pairs of his signature shoes this year and his jersey is the No. 1 seller in the NBA.
In other words, it's just a poll.
