Don Nelson To The T’Wolves? Please God Let This Happen

According to reports Tuesday night, Don Nelson is “intrigued” by the talent in Minnesota and interested in the head coaching job with the Timberwolves. Would this be the greatest fit ever, or merely a really great fit?

Not saying it’d be successful, but damnit, no matter what happens, you’ll be entertained.

Think about it. The Timberwolves already have a roster brimming with unorthodox talent, they finally have Ricky Rubio around to run and gun, and Don Nelson and Michael Beasley were made for each other. A tweener forward, you say? Who shoots all the time, plays terrible defense, rarely rebounds, and lacks discipline? NELLIE’S INTRIGUED.

Nobody’s saying it’s the best move for the Timberwolves, but who else would want to coach in Minnesota at this point? Who wants to come work for a guy (David Kahn) who leaked the firing of his last coach (Kurt Rambis) the night before the NBA Draft, and then spent the next month waiting to make it official?

There are plenty of terrible bosses in this world, but nobody except David Kahn is working with such an alarming cocktail of arrogance, naivete, and flat out incompetence.

So if Don Nelson’s up for the challenge, then why not? Whenever pro basketball finally comes back, here’s to hoping that Nellie’s on the sidelines in Minny, Kevin Love’s jumping center, and Ricky Rubio’s on the floor with four power forwards. And if it all goes south and leads to Don Nelson drunkenly berating David Kahn one night, then so be it. It’s destiny, really.
