Well, not in so many words, but the one fairly significant NBA player to have previously spurned playing in the league to play in Europe warned those interested now that it’s not the paradise it seems. Via ESPN’s Ric Bucher:
Josh Childress’ Advice For Players Who Want To Go Overseas: Don’t
↵↵“I played for [Greek power Olympiacos] one of the biggest clubs in Europe,” Childress says. “But there were still six- and seven-hour bus rides, we didn’t stay at the best hotels and we flew commercial nine out of 10 times. And not all coaches care about your body. It’s more military style. There’s no getting tired. I’ll be interested to see how guys’ bodies respond.”
↵↵Childress noted how stars get no preferential treatment, how European teams don’t always pay their players like they should and how American stars get targeted by the referees. Ultimately, he said he’d never go back, even during the NBA lockout.
↵Here’s hoping other players listen to him before making up their minds.
