Think you know how NBA stars keep busy during the NBA Lockout? You have no idea.
Lockout Life: Kobe Bryant Plays Soccer In D.C. Over The Weekend
Kobe Bryant was in the nation’s capital this past weekend, and in addition to goofing off during halftime of the Manchester United-FC Barcelona friendly (above), he also showed off his soccer skillz during Mia Hamm’s annual charity game in downtown D.C.
Some highlights:
The pickup game also featured women’s soccer stars like Alex Morgan, Tobin Heath, and Ali Kreiger, D.C. athletes like DeAngelo Hall and John Carlson, not to mention local sports personalities like the Washington Post’s Mike Wise, and ESPN’s Tony Reali.
All in all, it sounds like just about the most random group of people you’d ever find on a Saturday in downtown Washington D.C. Kobe told NBC4 that the game was a fun distraction from NBA chaos--and lots of Kobe Bryant rumors--and said, “I got a chance to play soccer for the first time in 20 years. It’s hot, but it’s been a lot of fun.”
Speaking of “a lot of fun”... Most of us would have been happy just getting a ticket to Man U-Barcelona, but when Kobe goes to a soccer game, he gets to practice penalty kicks at halftime. Yet another reminder that, even during lockout season, athletes have much cooler lives than the rest of us.
