VIDEO: Randy Moss’ Retirement Allows Us To Remember His Basketball Career
Randy Moss has retired from the NFL, robbing professional sports of one of its most spectacular athletes. I use the word “athletes” for a reason. In a NFL Network video from earlier this summer, Brian Billick, Moss’ offensive coordinator in his early days with the Vikings, led with this statement.
“Every field or court he’s stepped on, whatever game he wants to play, he’s been the best athlete.”
This seems like the perfect time to remember his basketball career. Highlights and more below the jump.
Moss was on the same high school team as former Sacramento Kings point guard Jason Williams, a fact commemorated by the old Nike commercial shown above. The two played for the now-defunct DuPont High in West Virginia. Moss lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track, which is amazing because that's four sports for three seasons.
Moss also played three games in the NBA Summer League in 2000 and had a stint with the Pennsylvania Valley Dogs of the United States Basketball League in 2001. He probably could have been an NBA player if he really wanted to be. That would have been fun to see.
Instead, we have to live with rare, blurry, soundless video of Moss and Williams in high school. Enjoy.
