On the heels of dazzling cameos from the likes of LeBron James and Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant got into the action at L.A.‘s famed Drew League on Tuesday, and may have one-upped everyone. Fresh off that little incident in church, he scored 45 points on the night, but at this point that’s pretty much par for the course.
Kobe Bryant, A Drew League Game-Winner, And An Endless Summer
↵It was his game-winner that sets him apart. In case the video’s unclear, that’s James Harden playing the Byron Russell to Kobe’s Jordan.
↵
↵The whole crowd chanting “Kobe! Kobe! Kobe!” while he walks it up... The stutter-step... The fadeaway... Everyone rushing the court and mobbing Kobe with his hands in the air... Yeah, it’s still a glorified pickup game like all the others, but goddamn that’s cool.
↵Here’s to hoping that if the NBA lockout lasts all year, then so will this surreal, endless summer of superstar pickup games. (Next up: Washington D.C. this Saturday... with Kobe?)
