Reggie Miller And Mark Jackson Both Out Of The Booth? Be Still My Beating Heart

Early this offseason, the Golden State Warriors hired Mark Jackson to be the team’s new head coach. Jackson could very well be a great head coach despite having no coaching experience at any level; he was a fine point guard, a real cerebral type who understand the game as well as anyone while on the court.

As an announcer? Jackson was a combative cliché machine who took himself too seriously except when he went over the top to show how "fun" he could be, which is typically "not fun at all." The only thing worse about the NBA on ESPN/ABC than Mark Jackson last season was that embarrassing studio show starring Magic Johnson. And, of course, Jon Barry.

There has been an announcer far worse than Jackson, however, and his name is Reggie Miller. And he could become the Indiana Pacers' new general manager. Joy of holy joys.

I don't mean to be mean -- I could certainly never ever do the job passably. But one could argue that Jackson nor Miller were able to either. The issue for me has been that these guys get the big assignments while their networks employ much better, more informative and more enjoyable analysts. If TNT had replaced Reggie with Chris Webber, the network's already top-notch basketball coverage would have been massively improved. If ESPN replaced Jackson with Doris Burke or Hubie Brown, the Finals would have been that much better. (#freedoris)

Again, this is hard job. Calling a game as fast-paced and breathless as pro basketball is insanely difficult. But it's an important factor in how enjoyable a game is for a spectator. That fans could see these two men replaced by more capable analysts in one summer is like manna from Heaven. Please, Pacers. Do the right thing. Free us from Reggie.
