Ron Artest was scheduled to officially undergo a name change to Metta World Peace last week. Unfortunately, that was held up due to an inability to pay off his parking tickets.
Ron Artest Is Not Metta World Peace Because He Doesn’t Know How To Pay A Parking Ticket
The Lakers forward explained exactly what went wrong while talking to Stephen A. Smith on Wednesday night.
“It comes down to the parking tickets,” Artest said. “I don’t know how to pay a parking ticket. I’ve never paid a parking ticket in my life. There’s so much fine print ... I just get them and throw them in my glove compartment.”
I have never personally been issued a parking ticket in Los Angeles, but I can’t imagine there is that much difference in parking tickets from state to state.
Where I’m from, this is what happens when being issued a parking ticket.
- A parking ticket shows up on my windshield.
- The ticket says send or drop off a certain monetary value.
- I send or drop off said monetary value (except for that one time when I didn't and ended up paying triple the amount because I pulled what I'll now call "a Metta World Peace canceler.")
- I'm legally able to change his name .
Artest also talked about his name change during the ESPN interview, by the way, which was as spectacular as one might think.
“When Ocho did it, I was like, ‘That’s kind of dope. I want to change my name,’” Artest said. “But then I was like, ‘I’m not going to do it because that just don’t make sense.’”
Kind of like not paying parking tickets to the extent of having to go to court before legally being able to change your name, yeah?
