The day is finally here. After petitioning to change his name over the summer, Ron Artest will now be known as Metta World Peace. His petition has been approved, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Superior Court spokeswoman Patricia Kelly says World Peace is Artest’s new last name.
“Metta” is a Buddhist term that refers to loving and kindness, so Artest’s name, translated literally, is “Kindness World Peace.”
What took so long? A few things, but mostly the fact that Artest World Peace had a gazillion parking tickets that needed to be resolved before he could officially have his name change. Paying all of those took Artest World Peace three weeks, which makes you wonder just how many tickets he had to pay.
No matter. In the end, it’s clear he has made Peace with the situation. See what I did there?
