NBA All-Star Snubs? The Voters Just Might Have Gotten It Right

Getty ImagesIf the outrage after the announcement of the full 2012 NBA All-Star Game rosters on Thursday seemed subdued, it is because it should have been. One look at the Eastern and Western rosters reveals that the voters -- first the fans, who elected starters, then NBA head coaches, who voted on subs -- mostly got things right. There’s not one player on either team who objectively does not deserve to be an All-Star.
That’s what we have in 2012. I can’t complain.

The NBA on Thursday announced the 14 players who will make up the reserve for the 2012 All-Star Game in Orlando on February 26. The league’s 30 head coaches selected seven players from each conference to round out the rosters, to which 10 players total had already been elected by fans.
If there are any injury absences, commissioner David Stern will select replacements.

TNT will announce the starting lineups for the 2012 NBA All-Star Game during a special airing at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday. There is little drama involved in the fan voting this year, as each position in both conferences’ starting fives has been dominated according to the NBA’s early voting returns.
NBA head coaches will then vote to elect seven reserves for each conference. Those results will be announced on Thursday, Feb. 9, on TNT. There are usually a few injury absences, as well; commissioner David Stern will replace those players individually leading up to the All-Star Game on Feb. 26.
