If Steve Nash doesn't look right this season, it's because he's not: the Phoenix Suns' two-time MVP told Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic that he has been nursing a bruised rib for the first week of the season.

Nash apparently suffered the blow on a collision with the New Orleans Hornets' Greivis Vasquez in the Sun's opener on December 26. In the three games since, Nash has shot 7-29 from the field as Phoenix has gone 1-2. The Suns are 1-3 overall this season.

Nash told Coro the injury is affecting all facets of his performance.

Nash said it improves nightly with medication, but in each game he inevitably takes a blow to the left-rib-cage area and aggravates it. The intercostal muscles in the rib cage allow it to expand and drop during breathing.

“It’s like I’m holding my breath a lot,” Nash said. “I’m tired a lot. I’m bracing. It’s not fun. It’s definitely affected my shot and mobility.”

If Nash needs to sit, the Suns do have Ronnie Price off of the bench. Phoenix has four games but no back-to-backs scheduled this week; sitting for one game could give Nash three full days of rest.
