The Memphis Grizzlies have been angling to get bigger in the frontcourt all season as they're a bit thin behind Marc Gasol and the injured Zach Randolph following the season-ending injury to Darrell Arthur. The Philadelphia 76ers are helping in that quest, apparently, by agreeing to send young big man Marreese Speights to Memphis.
Marreese Speights To Be Traded To Grizzlies In Three-Team Deal, According To Report
The Memphis Grizzlies are in advanced talks that will net them Marreese Speights from the Philadelphia 76ers in a three-team trade that will also include Xavier Henry being sent to the New Orleans Hornets.
The Grizzlies are in "advanced talks" regarding a three-team trade that will net them Speights as they send second-year pro Xavier Henry to the New Orleans Hornets while supplying the Sixers with a pair of future draft picks, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. Further details are expected to be known shortly.
Speights, the 16th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, has been a bit of a disappoint thus far in his career as he’s posted averages of 7.2 points and 3.7 rebounds as the first big off the bench for Philadelphia. The 6-foot-10 big man is thought to have plenty of potential, however, as he averaged a near double-double in his sophomore year with the Florida Gators before declaring himself eligible for the draft.
Henry hasn’t played a game at all this season due to a sprained ankle. The Grizzlies wing rotation is crowded without him, however, making it possible for them to send last year’s lottery pick away in order to secure frontcourt depth.
