What Kwame Was Supposed To Be, And What He’s Become Instead

↵

He had legit size, breadth, and quick, mobile feet. He could jump, of course, but unlike high-flyers like Gerald Green, Keith Van Horn, or Stromile Swift, who take too long to spring themselves toward the rim, Kwame jumped in quick bursts. ... if Kwame Brown were a high school student right now and if the league had not adopted the age limit, he would be the no. 1 pick in next year's draft. ... Kwame, even as a 19-year-old, was twice as thick as Anthony Davis, this year's projected no. 1 pick. He was quicker than anyone his size. If you can imagine what would happen if Nene grew three inches in height and a half-foot in wingspan, that's what Kwame Brown was supposed to be.

↵From Jay Caspian Kang at Grantland, a nice look at Kwame Brown, one of the best prospects to ever enter the NBA, who became one of the league’s most vexing cautionary tales within about 24 months. Check it out.
