Cavaliers Vs. Blazers: Kyrie Irving Not Nearly Enough For Cleveland In Blowout Loss To Portland

Kyrie Irving put up big numbers, but the Cleveland Cavaliers still fell badly to the Portland Trailblazers on Sunday.

Kyrie Irving scored 21 points on 9-17 shooting with four rebounds and four assists, but it wasn't nearly enough for the Cleveland Cavaliers as the club lost 98-78 to the Portland Trail Blazers at the Rose Garden. Portland was hardly sharp offensively, shooting 41 percent from the floor and hitting just 6-23 on three-pointers. But Cleveland was much, much worse.

The Cavs shot 36.7 percent from the floor, 3-24 from beyond the arc and racked up 24 turnovers in 101 possessions. Irving was responsible for four of those turnovers, and Samardo Samuels coughed up another five.

The Blazers' offense came from LaMarcus Aldridge (28 points on 10-21 shooting) and Wesley Matthews (24 points on 8-17).

In other exciting blowout action, the Minnesota Timberwolves pounded the Washington Wizards in a matinee at the Verizon Center by the score 93-72. The Wolves hadn't had a 20-point road win since 2008. The Wizards hadn't had a 20-point home loss since ... last March, when they had two back-to-back.

Eight Wizards played more than 10 minutes on Sunday. Trevor Booker shot 7-9. The other seven combined to shoot 22-74 (29.7 percent). Kevin Love took advantage with 14 defensive rebounds.
