The Mavericks, who will begin their season Oct. 30 against the new-look Los Angeles Lakers, have not announced how long West will be suspended. He is under contract with the Mavericks for the one-year minimum deal.
The 29-year-old West played in Monday's preseason game against the Houston Rockets, logging nearly 17 minutes of action in the team's victory. West registered two points, one rebound and two assists in his time.
Last year with the Mavericks, West averaged nearly 10 points per game on 46 percent shooting from the floor. West will be a key part of Dallas' team this year, likely coming off the bench as the third guard capable of playing either guard position alongside Darren Collison or O.J. Mayo.
The news of West's suspension comes just minutes after star power forward Dirk Nowitzki told reporters his right knee has swelled up again.
