Nets exercise MarShon Brooks’ 2013-14 option

The Brooklyn Nets exercised MarShon Brooks’ third-year contract option that runs through the 2013-14 season, the team announced on Friday.

The Brooklyn Nets have exercised their third-year team option for guard MarShon Brooks, keeping the Providence product under contract through the 2013-14 season, Nets general manger Billy King announced on Friday.

The 6'5 shooting guard was taken in the first round with the No. 25 pick in the 2011 draft by the Boston Celtics. The Celtics made the pick for the Brooklyn Nets, as the two teams had previously agreed to a draft day deal. As part of the deal, Brooklyn was able to move up from the No. 27 pick in exchange for the rights to that pick, JuJuan Johnson, and the Nets’ 2014 second-round pick.

As a rookie, Brooks appeared in 56 games with the Nets and started 47 of the contests in last year’s lockout shortened season. The former Friar averaged 12.6 points and 3.6 rebounds in 29.4 minutes per game last season, while also committing 2.1 turnovers per game.
