Milwaukee guard Monta Ellis is reportedly likely to exercise an opt-out clause in his contract and become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

The 26-year-old Ellis will make $11 million this season and can still opt to return to Milwaukee in 2013-14 for the same salary, but clearly believes that he can make more on the open market as a free agent next summer. With the Bucks also dealing with point guard Brandon Jennings' demands for a new contract at the moment as well, it's quite difficult to say what the future holds for Milwaukee's backcourt after this upcoming season.
Ellis averaged 17.6 points and 5.9 assists per night over a brief 21-game stint with the Bucks last year, and teamed with Jennings nicely to form one of the quickest backcourts in the league. Even though $11 million is a heck of a lot of money to leave on the table, a big year out of Ellis in 2012-13 could make him an extremely attractive commodity next summer.
