Danilo Gallinari injury: Nuggets’ forward a game-time decision for opener

An ankle injury may keep Danilo Gallinari from starting the Denver Nuggets’ season opener Wednesday night, as he’s considered a game-time decision.

Danilo Gallinari will be a game-time decision with an ankle injury for the Denver Nuggets' season opening game against the 76ers on Wednesday in Philadelphia.

Gallinari hurt his ankle in practice, but it isn’t expected to be serious. Benjamin Hochman of the Denver Post reported that the Italian native is walking normally, but isn’t sure whether he can go full speed yet. Either way, the tweaked ankle won’t keep him out for long, although it might provide a slight hitch in the start of his fifth NBA season.

Head coach George Karl said the 24 year old's minutes will be filled by Wilson Chandler if he's unable to play, although Chandler is dealing with a hip injury of his own that the coach said would keep him from playing in both games on back to backs. Gallinari is expected to start this season and provide scoring punch after averaging 14.6 points last year. He missed a decent chunk of time last season after breaking his thumb.
