Danilo Gallinari injury: Nuggets’ forward sits out opener with ankle sprain

The Denver Nuggets will be without starting forward Danilo Gallinari for tonight's season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers, according to team reporter Aaron J. Lopez. Gallinari, who is out with a sprained ankle, will be joined by Timothy Mozgov, who is also out with a knee a strain.

Gallinari is in his second full season with the Nuggets after being traded to Denver from the New York Knicks during the 2010-11 season. The forward started 40 games for the Nuggets last season, averaging 14.6 points in 31 minutes per game. The native Italian has seen his numbers drop a bit with Denver, although Gallinari did enjoy a career-high 2.7 assists per game in 2011-12.

The Nuggets lost the final four games of the preseason leading up to the opener against Philadelphia, including a 88-72 loss to Phoenix on Oct. 26. Gallinari had just four points for Denver in 22 minutes against Portland, while putting up 26 against the Thunder on Oct. 21.

The Denver Nuggets are set to take on the Philadelphia 76ers at 7 p.m. ET.
