Allen Iverson set to sign in Israel

Allen Iverson, who had announced his retirement earlier this year, has apparently signed with Israeli team Maccabi Haifa for a pair of preseason games against NBA teams, with the team considering bringing him in for more games.

Allen Iverson will once again take the court against NBA teams, as he has apparently signed a deal with Israeli club Maccabi Haifa for their preseason games in the United States.

The Israeli team, for whom current Golden State Warriors forward Jeremy Tyler played instead of going to high school for a senior season, is coached by Brad Greenberg, the general manager who drafted Iverson for the 76ers. He offered the deal to Iverson, with the intention of potentially signing him for longer should he seem like a fit in the team's preseason games against the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves.

The 37-year-old Philadelphia 76ers legend has had a circuitous route towards the end of his career: there was an ill-fated stint in Detroit, where he and the team mutually agreed he should stop playing, a three-game stint for the Memphis Grizzlies, where he and the team mutually agreed he should stop playing, a return to Philadelphia, where he and the team mutually agreed he should stop playing, and a stint in Turkey for Besiktas in 2010. Since then, he's been dormant, announcing his retirement earlier in 2012 with rumors of his bankruptcy surrounding him. It's unclear what type of shape Iverson is in, or how much of his considerable talent he has left, but he presumably relishes the opportunity to face off against NBA competition for the first time in over two years.
