NBA 3 on 3 Tournament Results -- Heat Champs Again!

When you think of the best threesome of NBA teammates, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh almost immediately come to mind. In SB Nation's NBA 3 on 3 Tournament, it was indeed the Three Amigos from Miami who won the title, following up on their NBA Championship from last June.

In the Final the Heat defeated an upstart team of players who failed to make their own squad's 3 on 3 selections. The West Leftover team of James Harden, Zach Randolph and Pau Gasol tore through the Western Conference, upsetting the San Antonio Spurs (Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan) and Los Angeles Lakers (Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard) along the way. But the Leftovers had no more miracles left against the mighty Heat.

In some bizarre, perhaps even petulant voting from our panel of experts, the Heat were barely considered favorites in this series, being given just a 53 percent chance to win any given game. But as has been the case throughout the tournament, the dice were once again very kind to the Heat, as the rolls came back 38 and 15.

In fact, in five series, all of which the Heat swept, only one out of the ten rolls that determined their fate was greater than 50. Which means that the Heat would have won at least four of those series even had they not been heavy favorites (which of course they were).

The old saying goes that it's better to be lucky than good, and in this Tournament the Heat were both. They were favored in every matchup (usually by a wide margin) and they benefited from very friendly dice as well. So although there were many upsets along the way, it's difficult to argue with the eventual champion: the Miami Heat now hold the mythical title of best 3 on 3 team in the NBA.
