Backup center Marcus Camby will miss the New York Knicks' first two preseason games with a strained left calf, the New York Daily News' Mitch Lawrence is reporting. The injury happened in the fourth Knick practice and is expected to keep the 38 year old out for a week to 10 days.

Entering the season, Camby is not expected to play major minutes, however, the Knicks do need him healthy and able to produce behind starting center Tyson Chandler. Last season for the Houston Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers, Camby played in a combined 59 games and averaged 4.9 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Camby was moved from Portland to Houston in a trade-deadline deal.
During the offseason, the former NBA Defensive Player of the Year was traded to the Knicks in a sign-and-trade deal with the Rockets. This is Camby’s second stint with New York as he played for them from 1998-00.
