Stan Van Gundy has landed a hybrid role as a basketball analyst and radio personality with NBC, according to Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix.

It appears that it’ll be somewhat of a tryout. USA Today reports that Van Gundy will call the Nov. 9 Georgetown-Florida college basketball game on the USS Bataan that will be broadcast by the NBC Sports Network. He will also work with the NBC Sports Radio programming that begins in January, according to the report.

This comes after Van Gundy charged that the NBA intervened in his hire at ESPN.

The former Orlando Magic head coach reportedly had a job set up with ESPN, who employs his brother Jeff Van Gundy. But Jeff Van Gundy asserted that the NBA and commissioner David Stern, considering their relationship with ESPN, might have blocked the deal.

Van Gundy has historically been a harsh critic of Stern’s, but the commissioner denied that he had anything to do with ESPN deciding against hiring Van Gundy, according to Sporting News.

The 31-year coach was fired by the Orlando Magic after the 2011-12 season.

His job with NBC will be his first behind the microphone.
