Phil Jackson’s return as Lakers coach moves closer, according to report

According to a report by the Los Angeles Times, there is a “95 percent chance” that Phil Jackson will return to coach the Lakers for a third time.

Just a day after the Los Angeles Lakers fired head coach Mike Brown, it is becoming more and more likely that Phil Jackson will return to the Lakers' bench for a third tenure with the team. A report by Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times says that according to a source in the organization there is a "95 percent chance" Jackson will take over the reigns in L.A.

According to the report, Jackson and Lakers’ officials will meet on Saturday to discuss the possibility of him taking the job or whether he is not interested for heath or other reasons.

Jackson has previously spent two different stints with the Lakers, from 1999-2004 and from 2005-2011, winning five NBA titles with the club. Jackson retired following the 2010-11 season and the Lakers hired Brown who was 41-25 in his first year in L.A.

Brown was fired after the star-studded Lakers fell to 1-4 on the season. Bernie Bickerstaff is currently operating as the interim head coach for the Lakers, who are now 2-4 after beating Golden State on Friday night.
