Mike D’Antoni will not coach Los Angeles Lakers Sunday

Bernie Bickerstaff will be on the sideline as the Lakers host the Houston Rockets while Mike D’Antoni continues to recover from knee replacement surgery.

The Mike D'Antoni era of the Los Angeles Lakers is still on hold. Despite numerous reports in the previous week that Sunday night's game against the Houston Rockets would be D'Antoni's coaching debut for the purple white and gold, Lakers.com writer Mike Trudell reported that D'Antoni is not ready to go Sunday. He's considered day-to-day.

Lakers fans may be a little disappointed by the news, but interim head coach Bernie Bickerstaff has coached the Lakers to a 3-1 record — with the one loss coming by two points to the San Antonio Spurs — and appears to have the respect of the Lakers players. Steve Nash is still injured, so there's really no one capable of running the D'Antoni offensive system healthy at the point guard spot.

The Lakers' next game is at home against the Brooklyn Nets Tuesday, so check back to see if D'Antoni is on the sidelines for that one. He's recovering from having his knee replaced less than two weeks ago, so don't be surprised if this takes longer than expected.
