Minnesota Timberwolves guard Brandon Roy is set to have knee surgery sometime this week, according to The Oregonian's Jason Quick. Roy, who missed the past season with knee issues, will miss the Wolves game Friday against the Trail Blazers in Portland, where he spent the first five seasons of his career.

Timberwolves guard Brandon Roy will undergo knee surgery this week, and will miss his first game back in Portland since retiring in 2011.

Roy bruised his right knee in the Wolves' final preseason game on Oct. 26, then hit the knee again in practice. He hit it a third time on Nov. 9 against the Pacers, and has yet to appear in a game since.
Roy was amnestied by the Trail Blazers last year, which allowed him to receive the remaining $63 million on his contract, while being removed from Portland’s salary cap. He signed a two-year deal with the Timberwolves in the offseason after receiving Regenokine treatment on his knees, which uses the patient’s own blood to help rehab the joint.
Roy is averaging 5.8 points, 4.6 assists, and 2.8 rebounds a game this season for Minnesota.
