The Boston Celtics waived Darko Milicic on Wednesday after he requested the release. Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge said, "Darko has asked us to release him so he could deal with a personal matter." It has been reported that Milicic is returning to Serbia to be with his ill mother.

The Boston Celtics waived Darko Milicic upon his request on Wednesday so he could be with his mother in Serbia.

Milicic was famously drafted second overall by the Detroit Pistons in the 2003 NBA Draft, ahead of stars such as Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade. Milicic has become an NBA journeyman, with the Celtics as the sixth team of his career.
For his career, Milicic has averages of 6.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 18.5 minutes per game. This season he only appeared in one regular season game for the Celtics, grabbing one rebound, missing one shot, and committing two turnovers and one personal foul in 4:30 of playing time.
The Celtics are 6-5 and host the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
