Lakers vs. Grizzlies final score: Memphis dominates early, holds on late against L.A.

The NBA-leading Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Los Angeles Lakers, 106-98, Friday in Memphis.

L.A. trailed by 16 following the first quarter and could never fully recover. They closed the gap to seven at the half before entering the fourth down by 12. Kobe Bryant tried to lead a late surge, but it was to no avail.

The Lakers had uneven production throughout the lineup as they dealt with the balanced attack of the Grizzlies. Bryant finished with 30 points and four assists, but was just 7 of 23 from the field. Dwight Howard only had seven shot attempts, making only two, and five turnovers. Pau Gasol finished with only six points and four rebounds.

Meanwhile, the Grizzlies had all five starters in double-figures, led by Rudy Gay's 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Zach Randolph added 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Mike Conley finished with 19 points and six assists.

Memphis was 50.7 percent from the field, 6 for 11 from the three-point line and 24 for 30 from the free-throw line in a remarkably efficient performance. Marc Gasol did a little bit of everything against his older brother's team as he finished with 14 points, eight assists, five rebounds, two blocks and made all four of his free throws.

The only positives the Lakers had were the performances of Metta World Peace and Antawn Jamison, who combined to shoot 12 for 20 from the field and 4 for 10 from three-point range for 16 points apiece.
