The Dallas Mavericks will sign point guard Derek Fisher and add him to the roster on Thursday, according to Mavericks beat writer Earl Sneed. Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said Dallas has been thinking about Fisher for "a while," as reported by TNT's David Aldridge.

Dallas is set to sign the 17-year veteran to add support to its guard line.


The 17-year veteran will join Darren Collison and Rodrigue Beaubois as the third point guard for Dallas, who ranks in the middle of the league with 15.2 turnovers per game.
Fisher has amassed 1,173 regular season games played in his long career. Last season, he played 43 games with the Los Angeles Lakers, was traded to the Houston Rockets who then waived him, and then Fisher signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he played 20 games. He has also played in 229 career postseason games.
The 6’1” guard out of Arkansas-Little Rock has averaged 8.6 points and 3.1 assists over his long career. His season high in both came in 2000-01, when he scored 11.4 points and dished 4.3 assists per contest.
