Anthony Davis injury: Hornets rookie suffers concussion, tests show

The Hornets have confirmed that rookie Anthony Davis suffered a concussion in Friday’s game against the Jazz. Davis will not travel with the team to Chicago.

The New Orleans Hornets have confirmed that rookie Anthony Davis suffered a concussion in Friday's game against the Utah Jazz, according to WWL-TV, New Orleans' CBS affiliate. As a result of the diagnosis, Davis will stay in New Orleans to undergo further testing and will not travel with the team to Chicago to face the Bulls Saturday, per Marc J. Spears of Yahoo!

The injury occurred with 4:51 remaining in the half. Davis was preparing to take a charge when fellow rookie Austin Rivers attempted to move into defensive position. Rivers inadvertently hit Davis in the head with an elbow. Prior to leaving the game, Davis tallied eight points, six rebounds, two blocks and a steal in just 14 minutes.

Under the NBA’s new concussion policy, Davis must pass a series of tests and be cleared by a neurologist before returning to action. As such, there is no defined timeline for the injury. The Hornets hold no say over when Davis returns.
