Gerald Wallace injury: Nets’ forward sprains ankle, will not play vs. Timberwolves

Brooklyn Nets forward Gerald Wallace will not be available on Monday night due to an ankle injury.

Kyle Terada-US PRESSWIRE

Brooklyn Nets' forward Gerald Wallace will not be available to play in Monday night's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves due to a sprained left ankle, according to an announcement by the team's public relations staff.

The injury was originally sustained in the closing minute of Saturday night's contest against the Toronto Raptors while Wallace was attempting to block a layup attempt by Kyle Lowry. After trying to stay in the game, Wallace left the floor and underwent X-rays, which came back negative.

Head coach Avery Johnson stated on Monday that Wallace's status is clarified as day-to-day, with the forward receiving continuing treatment from the club's training staff. While Johnson said Wallace is improving, he made it clear that he would not be available against Minnesota and couldn't answer whether he would be able to play against the Miami Heat on Wednesday night.

With Wallace out of the lineup, Keith Bogans will start in his place.
