John Wall and the saddest injury update of all time

Wizards point guard John Wall met with the media on Monday to discuss his injury. What happened next was history.

Kevin C. Cox

John Wall has missed the pass 10 weeks with a “stress injury” and there’s no timetable for his return. We know this. but more importantly, just about everything he said Monday will break your heart into a million pieces. It was really kind of incredible. Anyway, you can read the full transcript here, but for the sake of preserving history, we’ve pieced together some of the saddest quotes, one-by-one.

Being a Wizards fan is awful.

  • “I want to play basketball, you know what I mean?”
  • “We had a lot of goals set, and we still got them set.”
  • “It’s tough when you got to sit there and watch [the Wizards struggling]” ”[Blake Griffin] broke his kneecap. I think mine was just a stress fracture.”
  • “I was in the beginning stages of breaking my kneecap.”
  • “It was lucky.”
  • “I had a little bit of cartilage problems.”
  • “Underneath my kneecap it’s kind of rough.”
  • “I mean, you never know how it’s going to go.”
  • “You just hope it heals the right way.”
  • “I was swimming in the pool a little bit.”
  • “No, no timetable.”
  • “I’m still going to have to have to be playing a certain time limit whenever I come back.”
  • “I’m not going to be fully in the best of shape”
  • “It’s still going to be tough.”
  • “I couldn’t even run on it. I couldn’t stretch my leg out at one point. It’s been getting better, it’s just got to take time and see where it goes from here.”
  • “[Biggest comeback risk] Going back to the beginning stages. Probably breaking my kneecap.”
  • “I’m not trying to think that far ahead.”
  • “It’s the cartilage part left that I’m trying to get cleared.”
  • “All I do is sit at home.”
  • “I don’t really eat too much anyway.”
  • “Yeah, but [RG3’s injury] is a game. Mine’s been 3-4 months [chuckles].”
  • “You don’t want to miss a whole season, but if it comes to it, you have to.”
  • “I’m not trying to think that far ahead.”
  • “Everything else around my knee is in the right order it’s supposed to be. There’s just this one problem I’m trying to get over.”
  • “You can’t cut, you can’t run full speed, you can’t jump like you want to.”
  • “So you’re basically out there just wasting your time.”
  • “[Injuries] are just tough times you have to deal with.”

OK, so there you go. Now let’s all go chug a gallon of bleach.
