Richard Hamilton injury: Bulls guard has torn Plantar Fascia

Chicago Bulls guard Richard Hamilton is expected to be sidelined for at least a week after tearing a tissue in his foot on Saturday.

Rob Grabowski-US PRESSWIRE

Although he refused to leave the court in a key win over Philadelphia, Chicago Bulls guard Richard Hamilton suffered a torn Plantar Fascia in his left foot on Saturday night according to a report by the team.

The 34-year-old shooting guard has only been able to suit up for 80 or more games in a season one time since his 2005-06 campaign with the Detroit Pistons, and initially appeared to have suffered a sprained ankle on Saturday after falling to the floor in the third quarter. A full MRI on Sunday revealed the full extent of his injury however, and the former All-Star is now expected to miss at least one week of action.

Hamilton’s 13.9 points per game average currently ranks second on the Bulls, and he has been an extremely vital asset for a Chicago team that continues to play without star point guard Derrick Rose. While the loss of Hamilton will certainly force reserves like Marco Belinelli to step up offensively in the short-term, it’s still likely that Hamilton will be able to get back on the court before missing significant time.
