Kawhi Leonard injury: Spurs’ forward will reportedly return to court Friday

The 21-year-old forward could be available for the Spurs game against the Hornets on Friday night after missing five weeks with a left quadricep/knee injury.

San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard will be activated for the team's game against the New Orleans Hornets on Friday, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. He was sidelined for five weeks with tightness in his left quadriceps and knee.

Leonard, a second-year pro out of San Diego State, has been out of action since Nov. 17. He was sent to the Austin Toros of the NBA Developmental League on Wednesday for a rehab assignment and was recalled on Thursday.

In nine games with the Spurs this season, the 6’7 Leonard has averaged 10.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.0 steals in 28.9 minutes. As a rookie, Leonard played in 64 games and averaged 7.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 24.0 minutes per game. The addition of the 21-year-old forward would help an injury-riddled Spurs squad be the closest it’s been to full strength in quite some time.

Tipoff for the Spurs’ clash with the Hornets is slated for 8:30 p.m. ET at the AT&T Center.
