The Miami Heat released a statement Friday saying they do not agree with the NBA's decision to suspend star guard Dwyane Wade for one game.

“While we accept the decision of the NBA regarding Dwyane Wade, we do not agree with it,” a portion of the statement reads. “In his 10 years in the league, Dwyane has never been suspended, and has been an exemplary player and positive influence to his teammates and fans and we have been honored to have him as part of the Miami HEAT family.”

The league decided to suspend Wade after reviewing an incident on Wednesday in which Wade kicked Charlotte Bobcats guard Ramon Sessions in the groin. Wade will serve the suspension during Miami's game against the Detroit Pistons on Friday night; head coach Erik Spoelstra said that Mike Miller will get the start in Wade's place. The Heat are 17-3 without Wade in the lineup over the last two seasons, and the Pistons are just 9-22 this year.
