The Minnesota Timberwolves are attempting to pry Pau Gasol from the L.A. Lakers, with rookie Derrick Williams and draft picks serving as the bait, according to a report by FOXSports.com's Chris Tomasson. The Lakers nearly traded Gasol to the Houston Rockets in a deal for Chris Paul before the season began but the league office nixed the deal and instead approved a deal sending CP3 to the L.A. Clippers. That left Gasol and Lamar Odom, also reported to be involved in the deal, in the lurch.
NBA Trade Rumors: Timberwolves Interested In Pau Gasol
The Minnesota Timberwolves could offer up Derrick Williams and draft picks for Pau Gasol in a trade with the L.A. Lakers.
It's unclear whether the Lakers would want to hang on to Williams as a young power forward to pair with All-Star center Andrew Bynum or attempt to turn this into a three-way deal to land Dwight Howard. The Lakers don't have exciting young prospects outside of Bynum and their draft picks are assumed to be no higher than No. 20 for the foreseeable future. Packaging Williams, a pick from Minnesota and some of L.A.'s salary fluff could get the job done if Orlando is looking to retool.
The Lakers’ interest level in dealing Gasol is unknown.
