Dwight Howard Trade Saga Twists Again, As He Will Reportedly Waive 2012-13 Opt-Out After All

You're not going to believe this, but there's been another hiccup in the Dwight Howard trade saga. Early Thursday morning, just hours before the 3 p.m. NBA trade deadline, RealGM.com's Jarrod Rudolph reported that Howard had told him he would be signing a waiver of his early termination option. That would keep Howard under contract through the 2012-13 season, pushing his free agency to July 1, 2013.

Whether he would then remain with the Magic or be traded by Orlando for an extended rental before the deadline is unknown, though the former seems far more likely. There's also the possibility that Howard and the Magic front office agreed to this move in order to make a trade more tenable for one of Orlando's potential partners. The possibilities are plentiful at this point.

RealGM.com’s Alex Kennedy followed Rudolph’s report with confirmation and a suggestion that Howard could consider firing his agent Dan Fegan.

Stay tuned to all things Dwight on Orlando Pinstriped Post.
