Sam Young Trade Sends Former Grizzlies’ Forward To 76ers For Second-Round Pick

The first NBA deal on the day of the trade deadline isn't the most exciting one, but it does mean exciting things might be in store. The Memphis Grizzlies have reportedly decided to send forward Sam Young to the Philadelphia 76ers.

The deal is yet to be finalized, but the Philadelphia Daily News’ Bob Cooney posted on his blog that the deal has been agreed upon, according to his sources.

With Evan Turner now in the starting lineup the backcourt reserves for 76ers coach Doug Collins became painfully small, with Lou Williams and Jodie Meeks manning most of the minutes.

So the Sixers decided to do something about that and acquired guard/forward Sam Young from the Memphis Grizzlies today, the Daily News has learned. The Sixers are expected to give up a second-round pick.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports the second round pick in question is Ricky Sanchez.

Young has never really been given a chance to make an impact with the Grizzlies since being selected in the second round of the 2009 NBA Draft. He’s been put even further on the backburner this season, however, as the former Pittsburgh standout is averaging just 3.5 points in less than 12 minutes per game this season.
