The Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors meet Friday night on the 50th anniversary of the date that Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points for the Philadelphia Warriors.
Defense, not offense, might actually be the key in Friday night's game. Just two games ago, the Sixers held the Detroit Pistons to just 68 points in a 29-point rout before nearly holding Kevin Durant in check the following night as he made just seven of his 18 shot attempts.
The Warriors are coming off of a defensive battle of their own, too, as they toughed out a gritty 85-82 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night. The most impressive box score feat in that game, and the reason Friday night's game might lead to neither team reaching 100 points, came from second-time starter Dominic McGuire. McGuire's never been known as an offensive specialist, but he scored zero points as a starter while corralling an impressive 15 rebounds -- neat, yes?
Hopefully the teams are able to do something spectacular on the anniversary of The Stilt's big game, but unless Lou Williams and Monta Ellis decide to do battle for 48 minutes, it probably won't be on the offensive end.
