The Minnesota Timberwolves are currently in a bit of a slump, missing two of their starters due to injury. Rookie of the Year candidate Ricky Rubio is out for the season and surprising center Nikola Pekovic, who earned the starting job earlier this season, is out for at least another game.
Darko Milicic Is Too Out Shape To Play For The Timberwolves
In the old days, people would probably simply say "Have no fear, Timberwolves fans: Darko Milicic will fill in just fine!"
Maybe they wouldn't say it exactly like that ... but head coach Rick Adelman made it clear that Darko definitely isn't going to be the team's savior any time in the near future (via SB Nation Minnesota).
It seems odd that neither of the three big men on the bench would receive at least some sort of playing time in a blowout loss, but Adelman stuck to the opinion he gave the Star Tribune's Jerry Zgoda during the pregame media availability.
"He hasn't done anything to really give you a lot of faith that he's going to go out and do the job," Adelman said of Milicic. "He's gotten himself out of shape. He hasn't been as driven as you'd like so when a situation like this happens, it's time for someone to have their opportunity and get back in there. Today, [Williams] going to get his chance and Anthony Randolph is going to get his chance and we'll see if any of those guys can step up."
That probably isn’t what general manager David Kahn -- and the Wolves’ fanbase -- wants to hear from Adelman considering Darko was given a four-year, $20 million contract in the summer of 2010.
