Net Cords: Emotional Reaction To Chris Paul’s Return To New Orleans As A Clipper

Chris Paul made his first return to New Orleans as a member of the Los Angeles Clippers. The Hornets rose up and played hard and beat the Clippers in a game filled with undertones and pride (and one really hard foul).

↵Paul’s return to the Big Easy brought out a lot of emotion from the fans who followed the start of his fantastic career. SB Nation’s At The Hive says it best:

For me at least, there’s still far too much emotion here. I haven’t been, nor will I ever be able to subscribe to the binary “when Paul was a Hornet, I cheered him; now that he’s not, I won’t.” I don’t see anything wrong with the mentality. It is, essentially, adherence to the basic definition of sports. But Paul’s time here transcended that concept for me.

↵↵This situation reminds us how complex and deep fans’ relationships with players can be. “Rooting for laundry” is one thing, but there are a few special players that go well beyond that old sports adage.
