I'm not going to say that the Charlotte Bobcats are built on the foundation of nepotism, but owner Michael Jordan is renowned for hiring his friends and mentors (including roughly everyone who has worn Tar Heel blue) and general manager Rod Higgins actually put his son, Corey Higgins, on the roster out of the D-League.

So when head coach Paul Silas puts his son Stephen Silas in charge for about one game per week, we should not be surprised. The NBA, however, was caught off guard, and reportedly has asked Charlotte to inform the league office when Stephen is going to serve as head coach in the future.
The Charlotte Observer’s Rick Bonnell has the report. The reason that the league wants to know?
Referees give head coaches more latitude - to stand throughout the game, to argue calls, to ask for interpretations - than they do assistants. So it makes sense for refs to know how to delineate between Paul’s and Stephen’s roles.
Ref to Stephen: “Sit down and stop trying to talk to me, kid.”
Stephen to Ref: “But dad said I could stand up! Daaaaaaaaad ....”
Paul: “Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.”
