Charles Barkley Is Worried About David Stern Rigging The NBA Lottery

Charles Barkley spoke to ESPN Radio in Chicago this week, and when the topic turned to Anthony Davis, the Chuckster expressed some concerns about where he’s gonna end up. Or more specifically, how he gets there.

From Sports Radio Interviews:

"I’ve got to tell you something, I’m really concerned about the number one pick in the draft this year. Well, number one, I think Michael would take Anthony Davis or I’d kill him (laughs). I can’t say this, but I’m going to be watching the draft lottery very closely because I don’t want no shenanigans."

What are you alluding to? What do you think could happen?
“I’m going to be very leery if Anthony Davis ends up in Brooklyn. You know, I’m going to be very leery because I know the NBA has a lot riding on that new arena, especially if Deron Williams leaves New Jersey. They didn’t get Dwight Howard. I’m going to be very leery if New Jersey gets that number one pick.”

Are you a conspiracy theorist Chuck?
“I am. I am. (laughs) I am. ... You know, I go back to Patrick Ewing, so I believe in the conspiracy theories.”

First of all, the obvious: Between protecting the NBA’s interests in New Olreans and validating his trade veto in December, the Hornets are definitely the leading candidates to benefit from a David Stern conspiracy. There’s also the putrid Bobcats in a market that may or may not die in the next five years if nothing changes. If the NBA’s rigging the lottery, it’d be tough to pick Brooklyn, right? They’ve got those fancy forks from Jay-Z; they don’t need Anthony Davis.

Second: Logistics aside, it’s pretty awesome that the NBA’s most prominent commentator will openly wonder if the NBA would rig the lottery just to cover their ass in Brooklyn.

Once again, Charles Barkley is the greatest.
