Former NBA center Dwayne Schintzius has passed away from a rare form of leukemia. He was only 43.

(Schintzius) was surrounded by family when he died at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Sunday at the Moffitt Cancer Center, where he was first admitted in 2009 after being diagnosed with Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia (CMML), an uncommon blood cancer that affects only three in 100,000 individuals in the United States each year.
Schintzius played nine seasons in the NBA after being drafted 24th overall by San Antonio in 1990, most notably three years with the New Jersey Nets. He was known for his trademark mullet and a notable appearance in the Whoopi Goldberg-starring comedy Eddie. He last played in 1999 for the Boston Celtics. He also led Florida to their first three NCAA Tournament appearances in back-to-back-to-back seasons, and is the fifth-leading scorer in UF history.
Schintzius is survived by his younger brother, Travis, and parents, Ken and Linda.
