Sixers Vs. Magic: Philadelphia Playing For Playoffs Against Magic, Sans Dwight Howard

The Philadelphia 76ers are hoping to move closer to clinching a playoff berth on Monday night when they travel south to play the Orlando Magic. The game will be televised at 7 p.m. on NBA TV.

Presswire

The Philadelphia 76ers have been all over the map this season but, on Monday night, they'll be in lovely Florida to take on the Orlando Magic. It'll be interesting to see what team shows up in Orlando considering the Sixers have been sort of two-faced this season, but their job got a lot easier when Dwight Howard was shut down for the season.

The Sixers are currently sitting comfortably in seventh place in the Eastern Conference playoff standings which is a far cry from where they once were this season, but actually not a terrible position all things considered at this point in the year. Philly will come closer to clinching a playoff berth on Monday night if they’re able to pick up a win when their game tips off at 7 p.m. on NBA TV.

A win on Monday night would all but guarantee the Sixers a postseason berth and, if everything stays as is, a meeting with the not-too-intimidating Indiana Pacers in the first round. It shouldn't be terribly difficult for Philly to earn that win, either, considering Howard is out and the Magic have already clinched a postseason berth.

Hedo Turkoglu and Glen Davis are among other players injured for Orlando while the Sixers enter the game healthy, aside from maybe their egos after suffering a 95-89 loss to the New Jersey Nets their last time out.

Apart from playoff implications and injuries, our 76ers blog took an important look at which song embodies the current Sixers most, settling on a John Mayer classic:

Yep, the other song that perfectly describes my emotions comes from the male version of Sheryl Crow himself, John Mayer (and not because he looks like a kid who lived on my floor in Centreville Hall freshman year).

in this particular situation, the world represents the mindset of the Sixers front office. As Jordan pointed out in his brilliant piece of work yesterday, the Sixers have set up shop in Medicoretown, USA for the past decade and have done nothing to change it. So here we are as fans, waiting for that to change. Will the new ownership group try to change this or stick with the “exciting/young/stabmeintheneckplease” mindset that most of us are tired of hearing? We’ll just have to wait until the summer to find out, I guess.
