NBA Playoff Picture: Celtics Slip Back Under Threshold

The running concern for the Boston Celtics isn't seeding -- even after losing to the New York Knicks on Tuesday, Boston still has a tight grip on No. 4 and no chance of moving up -- but home court advantage in the first round. That loss to Carmelo Anthony and the 'Bockers dropped Boston a half-game below both the Atlanta Hawks and the Orlando Magic in the race for home court in the first round.

The C’s have just four games left, including an important challenge against the Magic on Wednesday. We’ll see if they can bounce back to regain the advantage over their Southeast competitors.

The only other East result with playoff implications saw the scorching Indiana Pacers take out the Philadelphia 76ers. Indy is a solid No. 3, but the Sixers' loss combined with the Knicks' win dropped Philly to one game back in No. 8. Milwaukee remains on the cusp of elimination.

In the West, the San Antonio Spurs earned a huge win over the L.A. Lakers -- is that why the birds sing this morning? -- to take a half-game lead over the Oklahoma City Thunder for No. 1 in the West. The Lakers' loss shrinks their gap over the L.A. Clippers to a half-game, though the Lakers do maintain the tiebreaker advantage. The Memphis Grizzlies also won, pulling them to within two games of the Clippers.

Twenty-eight of the league’s 30 teams hit the court on Wednesday. It should be spectacular. Scott Schroeder will preview the Enormous Consequences at SB Nation NBA at noon ET. Check it out.
