Where Tyrus Thomas Learns Not To Mess With Paul Silas

Paulsilas_medium

I know Paul Silas looks like a cuddly old grandfather, but that grandfather can still WHOOP. YOUR. ASS. From Adrian Wojnarowski at Yahoo!:

Silas, 68, had been incensed with Thomas chatting with some Boston Celtics players on the court, and lashed out at him in the losing locker room afterward. Eventually, Thomas snapped back at Silas, and the coach warned him to say no more or risk a suspension.

Once Thomas stood up, Silas pushed him toward his locker stall, sources said.

“Silas, 68...” is the highlight of that excerpt for me. There was also a source who added, “It started with him saying, hey, he could live with the losing, but you’re going to be buddy-buddy as they’re beating your ass too?” You want to talk about keeping it real? Paul Silas keeps it real.

For his part, Tyrus Thomas is 25 years old and has averaged six points and four rebounds this year while making almost eight million dollars, and ranks far lower on the real-keeping spectrum. And ... no, it’s not okay for coaches to hit players, but A) nobody was hurt, and B) you sorta have to admire any senior citizen who goes hand-to-hand with someone 43 years his junior.

So let’s cut Silas some slack.

He’s been coaching the f--king Bobcats all year. You’d snap, too.
